Wareham Police Make Firearm Arrest at Onset Fireworks Event

ONSET – A Wareham man was arrested on the 4th of July after police say he was carrying a loaded handgun on Onset Avenue at the town’s fireworks event.

Dominick Alves, 20, was arrested by officers assigned to the fireworks event after police received a tip that one of a group of three men may have been carrying a firearm.

Officers said the suspect made several movements towards his waistband but was arrested without incident.

Police said that further investigation showed the gun had been reported stolen from the Cape Cod area.

Markiese Tomkinson, 18, of Onset, was found to be in possession of a liquor bottle, according to police.

Tomkinson was arrested and charged with being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Both men were arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court.

Police Chief Kevin Walsh praised the work of his officers and said they may have prevented a dangerous incident from happening at a family event with thousands in attendance.
