WAREHAM – Wareham voters returned an incumbent selectmen to office but turned back a re-election bid by a member of the school committee in Tuesday’s election.
In the race for selectmen, incumbent selectman Alan Slavin held off a challenge from Marc Bianco for a three-year term by just over 200 votes.
Mary Bruce, who was running unopposed for the unexpired two-year term left by Judith Whiteside, was also elected to the board.
For school committee, incumbent Geoffrey Swett came in third and out of the running for two seats, losing to challengers Michael Flaherty and Rebekah Pratt.
The Wareham school district has been dealing with a budget crisis for several months and voters may have been looking for a fresh voice.
There were uncontested races for assessor, deputy moderator, housing authority, sewer user commissioner and non-sewer user commissioner.
Only 10 percent of Wareham’s registered voters went to the polls.
