WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren has been named to serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee during the next session of Congress starting in January.
The Massachusetts Democrat said in announcing the appointment on Wednesday that her work on the panel will focus on making sure Congress provides support and oversight for the U.S. Armed Forces and monitors threats to national security.
Warren said Congress must also ensure the “responsible use of military force around the globe.”
In a statement, Warren noted her three brothers all served in the military and that she understood the sacrifices made by service members in defense of the nation.
The committee assignment for Warren, an outspoken critic of President-elect Donald Trump, must be formally ratified by the Senate Democratic conference.
