HYANNIS – Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, along with Congressman Bill Keating, are asking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to include all necessary funding for the replacement of the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges in their work plan for the 2020 fiscal year.
This follows the release of the Major Rehabilitation Evaluation Report draft, which outlines the proposed plan to replace both bridges over the Cape Cod Canal.
Warren, Markey, and Keating applauded the draft report and support efforts to bring the bridges, which are both over 80 years old, up to modern standards.
A letter they sent to the Army Corps said that it is “of critical importance” that the work to replace the bridges “begins as soon as possible.”
The Corps of Engineers has recommended utilizing four lanes with two additional auxiliary lanes and sufficient pedestrian and bicycle access.
Several public information sessions on the plan will be held over the next several weeks.
