Wastewater Plan Proposed by Sandwich Business Owners

KA_Sandwich_Town Hall87_111715SANDWICH – Sandwich business owners pitched a wastewater plan to selectmen last month in an attempt to allow their proposed developments to move forward.

Mark Wisentaner and Paul Cleary said that they are seeking a state grant for a five mile pipe.

The $5 million pipe would extend from Route 130 in Forestdale to Forestdale School, down Quaker Meeting House Road to a property on Kiah’s Way that has been identified for wastewater discharge.

“The wastewater problem is so large and such a big problem for all of us, we decided that it would probably be best to get together and form a group that we could actually work with the town, with the state and with the federal government to put in place a wastewater solution,” said Wisentaner.

Cleary was representing Robert Clark of RP Clark Consulting Group.

The company is seeking to build a sports complex and convention on 54 acres of land in town and has an agreement in place.

Clark signed a purchase and sale agreement that includes securing a wastewater discharge permit.

The pipeline proposal could affect several properties that include both retail and residential developments and total 210 acres of land.

Wisentaner and Cleary want to apply for the Mass Works grant with the hopes of starting construction on the pipeline by next spring, but the deadline for the grant is next month.

“The collaboration and the unity of these property owners, also willing to make significant investment, we think we figured out the mathematics, the financing behind this challenging rubix cube that has faced the town over the last 20 years,” said Cleary.
