HYANNIS – Barnstable’s Department of Public Works’ Water Supply Division will start a construction project this week.
The purpose of the project will be to improve water quality and fire flows for customers of the Hyannis Water System.
About 2,000 feet of water main will be replaced on Main Street from Sea Street to the West End Rotary in Hyannis.
The work will also include the replacement of valves, fire hydrants and customer water services up to the property line.
The major work should be done this year with paving scheduled for the spring.
One lane of traffic should be open during the project but police details could close the road for safety concerns.
The town said residents in the area may see brief periods of water service interruption. Residents will be given notice of at least 48 hours prior to any service interruption.
