Cape Cod Woman Pleads Guilty to Welfare Fraud

BOSTON – 35 year old Cynthia Lehtola, of West Yarmouth, will spend the next three years under supervised release after being sentenced for Social Security fraud.

She will be confined to her home for the first six months on home confinement.

She diverted funds meant for her disabled daughter and spent the money on herself. The amount of the benefits totaled $53,682, and Lehtola has been ordered to pay that amount in restitution. Lehtola pled guilty in May of this year and was sentenced yesterday in federal court in Boston.
