Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary Offers Fall Field Schools

WELLFLEET – The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is offering weekend outdoor experiences for adults after the crowds of vacationers are gone from Cape Cod.

The sanctuary will host multiple Field School programs that will immerse participants in the outdoors and provide an opportunity to learn about the Cape’s wildlife.

The weekend programs begin September 7-9 with Shorebirds & Seabirds. Join ornithologist David Clapp to observe the wide range of shorebirds on the Outer Cape.

The program is designed to provide novice birders the skills to identify “peeps,” plovers and more. The weekend also includes boat trips so some of the region’s best birding hot spots.

Whales & Seals will be the focus September 14-16. The waters of Cape Cod Bay are the home and foraging areas for many species of large whales and seals. Learn from several scientists and naturalists who study the marine animals while taking boat trips and shoreline walks.

The final Field School Program October 19-21 will feature Fall Migrants. Songbird migration peaks on Cape Cod in mid-October. Expert birders will guide participants through key birding spots along with a trip to the Wellfleet Bay bird banding station.
