Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary to Host Box Turtle Tracking

WELLFLEET – The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is inviting members of the public to join Sanctuary Director Bob Prescott to discover our box turtle monitoring and research practices.

The family friendly event begins with an indoor presentation followed by an active excursion to track box turtles.

Wellfleet Bay officials have been tracking and studying the turtles for decades, designed to determine the population’s size and monitor its movements.

The sanctuary population now estimated at about 150 adult turtles, some of which may be approaching 100 years old.

The tracking will take place on Sunday, May 20th, from 1 through 3 PM. Pre-registration for the tracking event is required, you can go about doing that by visiting massaudubon.org.

All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and are advised to wear closed-toed walking shoes and long pants.
