Wellfleet Beachomber’s Fundraising Events See Success

WELLFLEET – Last year was a successful year for the Wellfleet Beachcomber’s fundraising initiatives.

The infamous beach bar hosts two major fundraising events every year, supporting local and regional charities: the “Clam Jam” and the “Live For Lou” fundraiser.

The Beachcomber has hosted “Clam Jam” for ten years. The June fundraiser raises money for the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC), which benefits the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. In 2018, $21,000 was raised during the event with the Team Beachcomber taking home $167,000 in donations for the Pan Mass Challenge.

The fifth annual “Live For Lou” fundraiser was held in September and reeled in $50,000 for the “Live For Lou” Fund.

The fund is an advised fund of the Cape Cod Foundation established in memory of the LeBarts’ son, Louie, who died as the result of an opioid overdose in 2014.

Over the past five years, “Live For Lou” has raised $268,000 in scholarships and for the construction of the Wellfleet Memorial Garden.

LFL gave out three scholarships in 2018 totaling $10,000. Two scholarships worth $2,500 each went to Nauset High School students pursuing college athletics, while a $5,000 scholarship was awarded for a scholar pursuing drug counseling education for a career.
