WELLFLEET – Although there was a setback to this year’s Wellfleet OysterFest, the party will go on.
The festivities will take place this weekend at Wellfleet’s Oysterfest, but no raw shellfish will be offerred.
The issue is that the state has closed shellfish beds in the area after detecting suspected norovirus over the past several days. Organizer Michelle Insley says the bed closures are a disappointment but the party will still go on.
“Come, there is alot of fun there, there will be live music, arts and crafts vendors, our family fun area, of course the annual shuck off and educational programs.”
Inisley says that the shellfish industry has been hit hard by the closures and the event is a fundraiser for fishermen and they need help more than ever this year.
The preliminary shuck off takes place on Saturday and the finals are on Sunday from one to two thirty.
OysterFest typially attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year.
