Wellfleet to ‘Go Green” During Upcoming Road Race

WELLFLEET – The Town of Wellfleet is stepping up efforts to go green this summer.

The 45th Annual Wellfleet Road Race will be plastic free.

After a unanimous vote at Spring town meeting to prohibit town purchases of plastic bottled beverages, Wellfleet will now prohibit plastic from being used at the race

The town’s Recreation Department made the change with the support of the Recycling Committee along with the Cape Cod nonprofit, Sustainable Practices.

Water will be provided in paper cups as well as in aluminum cans supplied by Open Water, a water canning company.

“Plastic is an issue for our environment and for our health. We are happy to help find ways to reduce use of disposable plastics,” said Christine Shreves, who shares the role of heading the Recycling Committee’s efforts.

The five-mile race starts at Mayo Beach located at 101 Kendrick Avenue in Wellfleet.
