Wellfleet Selectmen to Discuss Cahoon Hollow Beach Friday

WELLFLEET – Wellfleet Selectmen will meet Friday afternoon to discuss the Cahoon Hollow Beach parking lot collapse.

A heavy rainstorm last weekend caused a section of the lot near The Beachcomber restaurant to collapse, taking an unoccupied car with it.

The 35-space parking lot was closed and barricades established on the beach and the lot.

The town has been working on a safe foot path leading to the beach from the bluff and are hoping to have it ready for Saturday.

“People will be able to go to The Beachcomber, park behind The Beachcomber and still access the beach,” said Wellfleet Beach Administrator Suzanne Thomas.

Since Saturday, there has been no beach access to Cahoon Hollow Beach.

The shuttle service that transports people from White Crest to Cahoon Hollow and The Beachcomber will continue.

“If you need to go to The Beachcomber, you can park at White Crest and catch the free shuttle to Cahoon Hollow,” said Thomas.

Town staff presented an initial report about the parking lot collapse earlier this week to selectmen.

The pathway would only be a short-term solution.

The biggest concern for the town is storm water runoff mitigation and a long-term solution calls for someone who specializes in it to come up with a recommendation and for the town to accept it and have it go out to bid, but that could take a year.

The meeting will be held at the Wellfleet Senior Center at 4 p.m.
