Wellfleet Voters Approve Money for Harbor Dredging, Tidal Flats Purchase

WELLFLEET – Wellfleet voters overwhelmingly approved a $7.5 million debt exclusion at the town election Monday to dredge Wellfleet Harbor.

The area has become impassable at low tide and shoaling has been threatening the shellfish industry.

Voters also passed debt exclusions to buy tidal flats, purchase new equipment for the Department of Public Works and a used fire truck.

A tax override to pay for pre-school vouchers was also approved.

The only contested race on the ballot was for Wellfleet Housing Authority where incumbent Richard Ciotti defeated challenger Autumn Heather Edwards by a margin of 427 to 202.

There were uncontested races for selectmen, Wellfleet school committee, board of library trustees, cemetery commission and constable.

Voter turnout was 27 percent.
