Wellfleet Voters Fund Proposed Housing Project, Increase Taxes on Pot at Town Meeting

WELLFLEET – Wellfleet voters tackled a number of municipal items at Town Meeting this week.

The town approved a $100,000 project to work with Eastham on a proposed 65-unit development for worker and affordable housing. The complex would be built off Brackett Road in Eastham.

Residents agreed to a 3 percent local sales tax on the sale of marijuana.

Wellfleet also joined a growing list of local towns to change the name of the Board of Selectmen to Select Board. Provincetown, Brewster, and Nantucket have also adopted the gender neutral designation for the top decision making municipal boards in their towns.

Voters also approved changes to the town’s home rule charter by a voice vote.

Town meeting also approved hiring a new water resources director to oversee the development of Wellfleet’s wastewater management effort.
