WELLFLEET – Wellfleet voters approved spending money to hire a new police officer in Monday’s election, but rejected another tax override to fund a new Department of Public Works employee.
Just over 22% of the town’s registered voters cast ballots.
A $60,000 Proposition 2 ½ override for the new officer was approved 303-284.
They narrowly rejected a plan seeking $235,000 for a new street sweeper vehicle by a vote of 295-286, but approved a $95,000 debt exclusion for water main extension design costs.
In the only contested election in Wellfleet, incumbent constables Richard Robicheau and Michael Parlante held off a challenge from Sandra Callis to retain their seats.
Several other races were uncontested, including three selectmen seats, a school committee spot and the town moderator job.
