Whaling Museum to Host One-Night Only Performance

Actress Lisa Harrow and Dr. Roger Payne perform “SeaChange: Reversing the Tide” Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Whaling Museum on Nantucket.

NANTUCKET – The Nantucket Historical Association will hold a special one-night only performance this week at the Whaling Museum.

Special guests Dr. Roger Payne and actress Lisa Harrow will perform “SeaChange: Reversing the Tide” on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The program combines knowledge of science with the wisdom of poetry as Payne and Harrow argue that man is an integral part of life’s complex web and that human survival requires that we not just attend to our own well-being, but make the well-being of the entire web of life a priority.

Payne is the biologist famous for the discovery of humpback whale songs in the 1960s and an environmentalist who has played a major role in the campaign to end commercial whaling.

Payne has also led over 100 expeditions to all oceans and studied every species of large whale in the wild.

Harrow performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company in several plays alongside Judi Dench, Patrick Stewart, Peter O’Toole and John Hurt early in her acting career.

She has also appeared in several films. Her film “Sunday” won The Grand Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival and she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Actress.

Admission is $25, which includes a short reception. Tickets can be purchased at www.nha.org.
