DENNIS – Brewster State Representative Tim Whelan has announced that the Dennis and the Yarmouth Police Departments have received Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants.
The Dennis Police Department received over $72,000 and the Yarmouth Police Department received $60,000.
The Dennis Police grant is awarded to assist the Department with the investigation and identification of dealers and traffickers in opioids and other narcotics.
“It’s going to provide them with some more tools to help them combat drug trafficking within their communities and also only to not only investigating in identification but also in training and community outreach,” said Whelan.
The Yarmouth Police award will be directed toward identification and investigation of opioid dealers and traffickers, as well as assisting outreach programs currently utilized by the department.
Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grants derive from federal grant funds through the Bureau of Justice Assistance and are sub-granted to communities by application to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
“The fact that we’re able to get $132,000 between those two communities to split between their in-town efforts to help combat addiction and cut down on the number of opioid related deaths and hopefully repair some families, you really can’t put a price tag on that,” said Whelan.
