Whelan Chosen for Specialized Leadership Training Program

BREWSTER – A local politician is headed off Cape to receive specialized leadership training.

1st Barnstable District State Representative Tim Whelan has been chosen out of a field of hundreds of applicants to take part in a legislative boot camp sponsored by the Council of State Governments.

Whelan is one of only 48 participants who hail from 32 states to make this year’s class.

“Having the greatest respect for CSG’s work, the opportunity to apply and be considered for the highly regarded Henry Toll Fellowship was naturally attractive to me to better myself as a legislator and as a leaders,” said Whelan.

The Toll Fellowship is an intensive six-day, five-night course spanning all three branches of state government. It was founded 30 years ago.

The program’s agenda includes a lineup of sessions designed to stimulate personal assessment growth, while providing networking and relationship-building opportunities.

“CSG’s Toll Fellowship is a once-in-a-lifetime leadership development opportunity that has shaped public service careers for decades,” said David Adkins, CSG executive director/CEO.

Whelan said the course work also gets the students out into the field in outdoor team building exercises as well.

The conference is scheduled for August 25-30 in Lexington, Kentucky.
