Whelan Launches Re-Election Campaign at Yarmouth Event

YARMOUTH – Brewster State Rep. Tim Whelan (R) officially began his campaign for re-election Wednesday night.

The two-term Republican held a campaign kickoff event at the Cape Cod Irish Village in Yarmouth surrounded by hundreds of supporters.

“It just means an awful lot to see this much support. I’m looking forward to re-applying for my job to the voters,” said Whelan.

He represents the 1st Barnstable District, which includes Brewster, Dennis, most of Yarmouth, and a precinct in Barnstable.

Whelan said being a state rep. is all about doing the hard work for constituents and getting things done behind the scenes on Beacon Hill.

“I’m going to go out and campaign on what we’ve been able to accomplish and I’m going to run on my record,” he said.

Part of that record, according to the former State Police Trooper, is battling the opioid crisis on Cape Cod and across the state and helping people lost in the “web of addiction.”

Whelan has held the seat since 2014. At this point, no Democratic challengers have announced their candidacy for the position.
