CHATHAM – The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy hosted a regional shark working group meeting last week.
The meeting brought together shark experts from around the region including the Mass. Division of Fisheries, UMass Dartmouth School for Marine Science and Technology and public safety officials from Chatham, Orleans, Wellfleet, Truro, Provincetown, Dennis, Barnstable and Yarmouth.
Officials from the National Seashore were on hand as well.
Dr. Greg Skomal of the Division of Marine Fisheries provided an update of research on Great Whites and updated attendees on planned research in the future.
The group agreed to continue training for the “Stop the Bleed” initiative an looking into shark bite medical kits, signage and talking points. The next meeting is scheduled for late November.
There were two shark attacks in Cape Cod waters, including the fatal attack of Arthur Medici of Revere in September.
