ORLEANS – The Brewster Whitecaps pulled off yet another upset in the Cape League playoffs, eliminating the league’s top regular season team on their home turf Thursday night.
Brewster topped the Orleans Firebirds 2-1 in front of more than 4,000 fans at Eldridge Park, thanks to an 8th inning home run by outfielder Marty Costes.
The resilient Whitecaps won their second straight series after falling behind with a Game 1 loss. They beat defending champion Yarmouth-Dennis in the first round.
The Whitecaps now face Western Division Champion Bourne, who punched their ticket to the Championship Series with a series sweep of Wareham.
Game 1 will be held Friday at Stonybrook Field in Brewster at 4 p.m.
The series moves to Bourne’s Doran Park Saturday for Game 2. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
If necessary, a decisive Game 3 will be played Sunday at Brewster at 4 p.m.
Bourne is looking for their first title since 2009. The Whitecaps haven’t won the championship since 2000.
