Winter Storm Watch Issued for Cape Cod, Nantucket; Several Inches Possible

Snow MapHYANNIS – The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and portions of Plymouth and Bristol Counties for Thursday night into Friday afternoon.

Forecasters believe that overnight rain will transition to snow by early Friday and continue to fall for several hours.

Accumulations could range from 3-to-5 inches, with higher amounts possible around the Cape Cod Canal.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said there could be impacts to the Friday morning commute as the rain changes to snow.

There’s also the possibility of isolated power outages and downed tree limbs.

The National Weather Service said there is still some uncertainty about snowfall totals.

With the temperature expected to hover at, or just above freezing, any snow that does fall is expected to be heavy, wet and sticky.
