CAPE COD – Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end to the summer tourist season on Cape Cod, but local business leaders are gearing up for the so-called “shoulder season.”

Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Wendy Northcross said all indications are that the Cape had yet another successful summer and she expects that to continue into September.

“The kids are back in school and the empty-nesters will now arrive because it’s a little bit slower pace, but the best weather, everything’s open, there are great festivals and events,” Said Northcross, “so people really know that this is a sweet spot for Cape Cod tourism.”

The Cape suffered a bit this year from a mild summer but with decent weather expected through October, the crowds could continue to travel to the Cape.

Those who opt for off peak travel dates to the Cape often receive a better value and enhanced experience, with lower room rates, beach fees, and reduced crowds now that the kids are back in school.

Northcross said that in the past organized activity on the Cape slowed significantly, but now there are a number of functions to keep locals and tourists busy,

“There is a lot going on now, and I think that it is kind of fun, there is a lot of fun outdoor things to do, taking advantage again of our great fall weather”

Northcross touted many of the Capes upcoming autumn activities including food festivals like the Scallop Festival and Wellfleet Oyster Fest.
