HYANNIS – The nationwide “A Day Without Women” campaign is coming to Cape Cod today in the form of demonstrations at some of the region’s busiest rotaries.

Hour-long rallies are planned for the Orleans, Mashpee, Airport, and Hyannis West End rotaries beginning at noon. The events coincide with the U.N. designated International Women’s Day.

National organizers of the Day Without Women effort are asking participants to either take the day off from work or abstain from spending money. The goal is to demonstrate the economic importance of women in the United States.

The campaign is the first major action taken by the organizers of January’s Women’s March on Washington, an event that spawned similar rallies in cities across the country. Today’s local rallies are being run by the organization Cape & Islands Stronger Together.
