Steamship Authority Making Service Alterations Due to Upcoming Events

WOODS HOLE – The Steamship Authority is making alterations to their services due to upcoming events on Martha’s Vineyard and in Falmouth.

Today, Friday August 16th, the last two scheduled trips into and out of Oak Bluffs will be diverted to Vineyard Haven due to the Ocean Park Fireworks.

The specific trips affected are:

6:30 p.m. departure from Woods Hole and 7:30 p.m. return on board the “M/V Nantucket.”

7:30 p.m. departure from Woods Hole and 8:30 p.m. return on board the “M/V Martha’s Vineyard.”

On Sunday, August 18th Woods Hole Road will be closed to all traffic for the Falmouth Road Race from 8 a.m. to approximately 10 a.m.

Residents should expect travel delays along Woods Hole Road and Palmer Avenue all day as a result of the race.

The Steamship Authority has not canceled any trips on Sunday, however residents traveling between 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. must be on Woods Hole terminal property no later than 8 a.m. if they plan to travel or if they have a vehicle reservation.

The last bus to Woods Hole from the Thomas B. Landers Road parking lot will leave at 7:25 a.m.; the last bus from the Palmer Avenue parking lot will leave at 7:40 a.m.

Vehicles traveling from the Vineyard to Woods Hole during this time will not be able to leave the terminal after disembarking their vessel – and arriving customers will be unable to ride a bus to one of the Authority’s parking lots – until after the road is reopened.

Additionally, certain trips aboard the “M/V Nantucket” will leave earlier than scheduled in order to allow passengers to leave the terminal property before the race begins.

Those trips are:

Woods Hole to Oak Bluffs: The 6:30 a.m. trip will now leave at 6:20 a.m.

Oak bluffs to Woods Hole: The 7:30 a.m. trip will now leave at 7:15 a.m. The Falmouth Police Department has informed the Authority that vehicles on this boat will be able to leave the terminal when the boat arrives at 8 a.m.
