WOODS HOLE – It will be all about whales, sea turtles and Atlantic salmon at NOAA’s Woods Hole Science Aquarium next Saturday.
In recognition of National Endangered Species Day, the aquarium will hold a special event showcasing what is being done to recover the populations of these rare animals.
The special event is Saturday, May 19.
A variety of displays, exhibits, and hands-on activities will be offered from noon until 2 p.m.
Scientists who are conducting research on these endangered species will also be on hand to discuss their work with visitors.
Kristy Owen, with the Woods Hole Science Aquarium, says the event is chance for people of all ages to learn about local endangered and protected species.
The Woods Hole Science Aquarium features about 95 species of animals found in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region and a touch tank filled with crabs, sea urchins and other species.
The nation’s oldest public marine aquarium is open year-round Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted for education and conservation programs.
