Woods Hole Science Aquarium Shifts to Off-Season Hours

WOODS HOLE – Beginning after Columbus Day, the Woods Hole Science Aquarium is shifting to off-season hours.

The new hours will be Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The aquarium is closed on all federal holidays and will be closed Monday, October 8 for Columbus Day.

The Woods Hole Science Aquarium is operated by the Northeast Fisheries Science Center and is the oldest public marine aquarium in the country.

It has been part of the federal fisheries laboratory in Woods Hole since 1875.

The Aquarium’s live collection includes species of marine fish and invertebrates that are found in waters off the Northeastern U.S., along with come tropical species that are carried north by currents as well as invasive species like the lionfish.

A touch tank is also a popular attraction.

Exhibits at the aquarium highlight some of the Science Center’s research programs, including the interactive “Sounds of the Sea” display which features whale and other marine animal sounds.

Admission to the museum is free, but donations are accepted.
