Woods Hole Sea Grant Sponsors Seven New Research Projects

WOODS HOLE – Seven new research projects will be sponsored by the Woods Hole Sea Grant.

The projects will focus on issues surrounding parts of the Massachusetts coast, including microplastics, sharks, seals, and river herring.

Academic institutions across the state will be conducting the research over two years. Nearly $1.5 million have been provided for these projects by NOAA and other non-federal funds.

Specifically, the projects are described by the Woods Hole Sea Grant as:

–Development and Testing of a Near-real-time White Shark forecast System for Cape Cod, Massachusetts

–Human Dimension of Rebounding Population of Seals and White Sharks on Cape Cod, Massachusetts

–Understanding the Rewilding of Cape Cod: Creating a curriculum for middle school learners

–Microplastics in Coastal Marine Animals: Defining the problem

–Assessing the Seasonal and Storm-Impacted Transport and Biological Fate of Micro-and-Nanoplastics Discharged from Wastewater Treatment Facilities into Massachusetts Coastal Waters

–Closing the Loop: Characterizing habit requirements, movements, and life stage linkages of river herring in Massachusetts watersheds

–Shoreline Resilience and Inlet Management
