Work Crews Set to Dredge Cotuit Bay Entrance Channel & Western Tip of Sampson’s Island

BARNSTABLE COUNTY- Barnstable County Mariners are being advised of an up-coming dredge project affecting the Cotuit Bay Entrance Channel along with the western tip of Sampson’s Island, this week.

Beginning November 5th officials with the Barnstable Department of Public Works will begin operations to help widen the existing channel by approximately 130 feet.

All material dredged from that section will then be utilized for beach nourishment purposes on the southern side of the eastern end of the island (Dead Neck Beach), and for a new ‘Habitat Enhancement Area’.

Operations will run Monday through Saturday from 7 AM to 5 PM, with the entire project expected to wrap up by January 15th of 2019 (weather permitting).

Boaters are being urged to use caution while navigating the waters during peak work times.
