Workshops Seek to Gather Fisheries Input for Offshore Wind Studies

NEW BEDFORD – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s School for Marine Science and Technology will host four workshops with fishing industry leaders to identify priorities for assessing the impacts on the ecosystems associated with offshore wind development.

The priorities will focus on effects before, during and after construction and aid in the design of studies of the Vineyard Wind project.

The first forum is today in New Bedford from 6 to 8 p.m. at UMass Dartmouth’s School for Marine Science and Technology on South Rodney French Boulevard.

Upcoming local workshops will be held Monday, November 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Chatham Community Center and Monday, December 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Tisbury Library.

The Vineyard Wind project will construct an 800-megawatt wind farm 15 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard. Onshore construction is expected to begin in 2019.
