COTUIT – The audience at the Cotuit Center for the Arts will be brought back to the early 20th century next month with a concert from the Xylophonia Ragtime Marimba Band.
The band will take to the main stage Wednesday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. and will celebrate the golden age of xylophone ragtime music from the 1900s to 1930s.
Xylophonia does not restrict themselves to the golden age of ragtime and will include some surprises into the performance.
Amy Lynn Barber is the founder and artistic director of the band and says ragtime was an important precursor to jazz and is a unique American music style.
Barber is an award-winning percussionist and marimbist and has performed and taught on five continents. She is known for innovative programming and presentation of new music to broad audiences.
The other members of Xylophonia are Victoria Chang, Paul Gross, Ian Hale and Mark Prall, who will take turns playing xylophone solos while the others accompany on marimbas.
