SOUTH YARMOUTH – The 2nd annual Mid-Cape Tourism Summit was held at Red Jacket Beach Resort in South Yarmouth on Thursday.
Around 20 local businesses set up exhibitor tables at the event, which was intended to educate attendees about tourism in the mid-Cape.
Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mary Vilbon said that having Yarmouth and Dennis businesses together is beneficial to events like this.
“There’s no boundaries when our tourists or even our residents are looking for something to do or looking for a place to go out for dinner,” said Vilbon. “They don’t look at the town line, they just look at what’s happening, what’s great and they want to be a part of that. So we just think this is a benefit for everyone.”
The summit also included three speaker sessions which focused on understanding cultural diversity in customer service and communication essentials.
The event was organized by the Steamship Authority and the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce and is funded in part by the Town of Yarmouth’s Tourism Revenue Preservation Fund.
Kimberly McHugh, Director of Marketing for the Steamship Authority, said that the summit is also about the sharing of information between local businesses.
“You can go golfing, you can go fishing, you can take a day trip to Nantucket, there’s so many wonderful things you can do in the mid-Cape area, that I don’t know if all of them know and this is a way of sharing information and that’s the ultimate goal,” said McHugh.
