Yarmouth Deputy Police Chief Xiarhos Running for 5th Barnstable State Rep. Seat

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth’s Deputy Police Chief has filed his paperwork to run for the 5th Barnstable District State Representative seat.

Steven Xiarhos, a resident of West Barnstable, filed his paperwork last month and marked his party affiliation as Republican.

He told the CapeCod.com Newscenter in September that he was thinking about a possible run in 2020 following State Rep. Randy Hunt’s decision to not seek re-election.

Hunt, who has represented the district for the last decade, announced in July that he would not run for reelection.

Xiarhos has served with the Yarmouth Police Department for 40 years and is also a Gold Star father. His son Nicholas, a U.S. Marine, was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2009.

Former Sandwich Selectman Tom Keyes, also a Republican, announced last month that he’s running for the same seat.
