Yarmouth Expands Search for Counsel

KA_Yarmouth_Town Hall_01_120215YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Board of Selectmen has decided to expand its search for the next town counsel, rather than limit the pool of applicants to the last 4 contenders.

The position of counsel brings aboard a legal consultant for the town to make decisions on a range of municipal issues.

Selectmen Chair Erik Tolley said the board considered 10 to 12 firms initially, shaving that number down to four local firms after a review process.

He said the board initially thought that hiring a local option would be best, but one board member felt strongly about bringing in some Boston-area options.

A second round of interviews, this time involving two new firms from Boston, will be held Tuesday.

Those firms include Kopelman & Paige and Blatman, Bobrowski, Mead, & Talerman.

Both firms serve as counsel for over many Massachusetts towns; the former holds the position in Dennis, Sandwich and others.

Tolley said the position will be invaluable to Yarmouth as they move forward.

“Yarmouth has enjoyed veteran staff for a long time, so the demands on town staff have been very little,” he said. “Where we are seeing a big changeover in administration, I can see the demands on the new town counsel’s time being very demanding.”

Tolley said he hopes once the decision will be made soon after the second round of interviews are completed.
