Yarmouth To Get New Dog Park Next Year

Dog BeachYARMOUTH- Yarmouth residents will see a new dog park next year, thanks to fundraising efforts and a grant from a private foundation.

The Town of Yarmouth received a grant from the Stanton Foundation in the amount of $154,145 to building the dog park at the Sandy Pond Recreational area.

The New York and Cambridge-based group provided the funding as part of its focus on canine welfare.

That money is in addition to the $45,000 that voters approved of last year and the $18,000 fund-raised by the Friends of the Yarmouth Dog Park group.

Currently Falmouth, Dennis and Provincetown are the only communities that have a dog park.

The park is set to include  separate fenced in areas for small and big dogs, play equipment, benches, shade and water fountains.

Construction on the dog park is expected to start in the fall with the opening scheduled for next spring.
