Yarmouth Police Arrest Three for Burglary and Armed Assault

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police arrested three people they say stole two bicycles and pairs of sneakers from a home on Route 28 in West Yarmouth last night.

Police received a call around 9:20 p.m. reporting two males with bats wearing hoodies, making threats, and calling the reporting party out of the house.

Yarmouth Police Patrol Officer Paul Mellett arrived on location and reported that he observed males running with bats into the woods.

Patrol Officer Kevin Antonovitch arrived in the area and encountered a male dressed in all black clothes nearby on Hemeon Drive later who was subsequently identified as Justin O’Brien.

Patrol Officer Mellet observed two males in dark clothing ride off on bicycles toward Higgins Crowell Road.

He also observed a Suburban type take off in the same direction.

Within a few minutes, Yarmouth Police Detective Scott Lundegren located the vehicle and two other suspects at the Cumberland Farms in West Yarmouth.

Investigation revealed that the suspects had arrived at 368 Route 28 and confronted a woman at the home and subsequently stole items and the two bicycles.

The bicycles, as well as numerous pairs of stolen sneakers, were found inside the vehicle stopped at Cumberland Farms.

Members of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit and a Barnstable Police K9 Unit assisted in the on-scene investigation.

Police arrested 21-year-old O’Brien, 24-year-old Benjamin Fortier and 18-year-old Althea Fortier.

All three were transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters and were arraigned today in Barnstable District Court.
