Yarmouth Police Capture Drive-by Shooter

Yarmouth PoliceYARMOUTH – A suspect in a shooting in Yarmouth has been charged with two counts of attempted murder.

Flavio H. Gambarotto-Santa, 19, of Hyannis was scheduled to be arraigned today on the charges.

Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers Connor Burnham and his Field Training Officer partner Gordon Gibbons has pulled over a car in the area of Winslow Gray and Joshua Baker Road in West Yarmouth on Sunday at 9:50 p.m. when they heard several gun shots.

The department received numerous 911 calls that gunshots were being fired at 18 Scrimshaw Lane, and the officers immediately responded.

Officers Burnham and Gibbons arrived at the house with Patrol Officer Paul Mellet and found a red Ford F-150 on the front lawn, still running. According to police, Outside of the truck was a man, later identified as the homeowner, yelling and screaming in the front yard. Inside the residence was his wife, and two young sons ages age 6 and 4.

Officers entered the house and began to speak with his wife and found the two young boys still hiding under the kitchen table. The husband and wife reported that no one was struck by the bullets but that she had a small piece of glass in her eye.

The couple informed officers that they believed that Flavio Gambarotto-Santa was responsible for the shooting based on past incidents in Hyannis involving inappropriate gestures and language.

Members of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit and as well as Yarmouth Police Department Detectives Scott Lundegren, Christopher Kent, and Chris VanNess arrived on the scene and conducted and active follow-up investigation.

A Barnstable Police Department K9 unit also was deployed to assist with a search for evidence. Initial investigation showed that bullets hit the front door and another hit just below the front bay window.

On Monday at approximately after midnight the suspect was positively identified from a photo array presentation conducted at Yarmouth Police Headquarters by Yarmouth Police Detectives.

At approximately 9:00 AM Yarmouth Police Department Detectives captured the suspect as he arrived at Barnstable District Court for an appearance on an unrelated previous crime.  The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters in West Yarmouth for booking.

After the completion of the booking process, the suspect was transferred to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment on two charges of attempted murder.

This investigation is active and ongoing.
