YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Foundation presented Yarmouth Police Officers with over $12,000 worth of Protective Clothing this week.

The jackets were presented to officers during a ceremony on Tuesday at Yarmouth Police Headquarters.

Yarmouth Police Foundation President Bruce Wilson said there are benefits with the new jackets.

“They can take the liners out of their black jackets and put them inside this raincoat, so they can use it year-round,” said Wilson.

The Foundation raised the funds from citizens in Yarmouth and across the Cape and purchased specially made Blauer Police Jackets through a special discounted price from Regency Police Supply in Hyannis.

Foundation Vice-President Mike Sahagian said he’s impressed with the donations and support from the community.

“There’s so many business owners and residents that are willing to help, seeing as how 97 percent of the police budget goes to payroll and it leaves very little for the special training or special equipment, so there’s been a great response to it,” said Sahagian.

The Foundation is also currently in the midst of construction on a new K-9 kennel at the police station.
