YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police honored its past and present on Friday during their inaugural Alumni Breakfast at the Hearth and Kettle.
Over 30 previous Yarmouth Police officers attended the event, which included a video presentation with pictures of the department’s history.
Police Chief Frank Frederickson came up with the idea after his father attended a recent gathering for Randolph police.
“With Police Memorial Week coming up, it was an opportune time to do it, and I know so many of the officers, I’d rather start now than later,” said Fredrickson.
An alumni officer who retired in 1961 and is a World War II veteran was also honored at the event.
Zara Kilmurray, who was the first female Yarmouth Police Officer and one of the first in the state, also attended the ceremony.
Deputy Police Chief Steven Xiarhos said it’s important to have the Yarmouth Police family together.
“The legacy of the Yarmouth Police Department is strong and we have to continue that, we are a family,” said Xiarhos. “Imagine a family where some people have never met, but it goes on and it’s important that they know that they’re apart of the history of this department.”
