YARMOUTH – Police in Yarmouth are looking to train more dog walkers in town Monday to be able to observe and report suspicious activity.

Last fall the department started its Dog Walkers Crime Watch program as part of its Community Policing Strategic Plan.

The program is a partnership with the Yarmouth Division of Animal Care and Protection, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Yarmouth Neighborhood Crime Watch.

Police say there are hundreds of dog walkers throughout the community at all times during the day and in all weather conditions. The program trains dog walkers on spotting suspicious activity and the correct way to report it to police.

A one-hour training session will be held at Yarmouth Police Headquarters at 6 p.m.

Walkers are welcome to bring their dogs, who will receive a Yarmouth Dog Walkers Crime Watch blue bandanna which was designed by local graphic artist and Yarmouth resident Geoff Jumper.
