Yarmouth Police React to Large Number of Heroin Overdoses

Yarmouth PoliceYARMOUTH – Yarmouth Deputy Police Chief Steven Xiarhos is working to get the word out to the community about the large number of heroin overdoses occurring in town and the toll it is taking on the community.

“In the past 14 days we have had six reported heroin overdoses in the town of Yarmouth that the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments have responded to,” he said. Two of those people died.

Since November 20, the department has responded overdoses of a 23-year-old woman, a 29-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, who were all saved with Narcan.

A 56-year-old man and a 30-year-old man were unable to recover and died from the overdose.

“This is a dramatic surge from the same time period as last year and the surge is being seen in several towns all over Cape Cod,” Xiarhos said.
