Yarmouth Police Recover Stolen Flag

flagYARMOUTH – Yarmouth Deputy Police Chief Steven Xiarhos is spreading the word about what he called a “random act of kindness” by one of their police officers.

On Sunday, November 30, South Yarmouth residents Norman Berube and Trish Wright noticed that the American flag that flies on a 20-foot flag pole in front of their home was missing.

“A quick check of our property showed that nothing else had been taken,” according to Wright.

Berube contacted Yarmouth Police Department and the dispatcher informed him that an officer would stop by the house later that morning.

Officer Brian Carchedi came by, took the report and was baffled that someone would steal the American flag, according to Wright.

Berube told the officer that he was a Navy Veteran and that they fly the flag with pride and to show allegiance to the country.

Before the homeowners had a chance to think about putting a new flag up, Officer Carchedi came by and dropped off a new flag for the couple.

“We are so thankful for the Yarmouth Police Department and the personnel you employ.  Officer Carchedi is an example to all of us in how we should live our lives,” Wright wrote to the department.
