YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department is stepping up their efforts to keep banks safe in town after a recent string of bank robberies across the Cape.

Officers with the department’s proactive anti-crime unit spent yesterday visiting every bank in Yarmouth to check in on customers and tellers.

“We want the bank employees to feel safe,” said Yarmouth Deputy Police Chief Steven Xiarhos, adding that it is important for police to be visible in the community to help reassure tellers and customer. “Any police department should be able to solve crimes, that’s what we do. An excellent police department should be seeking to prevent crime and improving safety and giving people the sense that they are safe. That’s our goal.”

Xiarhos also encouraged anybody to contact police if they see anything out of the ordinary, even if they think it’s minor.
