Yarmouth Police thank community for help in first-ever K9 kennel

kennellYARMOUTH – The men, women, and canines of the Yarmouth Police Department send a BIG YPD THANK YOU to the Yarmouth Police Foundation and everyone involved in making the first of its kind Police Department K9 Kennel on Cape Cod a reality.

We are also very proud to name this building in honor of Retired K-9 Officer Peter McClelland, who has dedicated over 32 years in law enforcement and is responsible for additional laws pertaining to K-9s here in Massachusetts.  Peter continues to assist with ongoing training and even volunteers to provide a little dog sitting every now and then.

kennell-1The kennel will provide a safe and secure haven at the YPD for the K-9s to stay while their partners are in the station, at court, or doing other activities that would have required them to leave the K-9s in the patrol vehicles for an extended amount of time.

Having to leave the K-9s in the vehicles meant that the vehicle had to remain running with either the A/C or heater on to protect them, which results in additional wear and tear on the vehicles and use of fuel.

In 2015 across America approximately 45 K-9s passed away due to vehicle failures this will no longer be a concern for the K-9 Officers in Yarmouth.

We want to thank Bruce Wilson, Mike Sahagian, Paul Greeley, and all the volunteers and donors who contributed time, materials, and thousands of dollars to make this happen; especially Michael and Dawn Nardone and the entire M. J. Nardone Building Team that led the way right from the start and kept the 13 month project on course and made it happen with class and style!
