YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Selectmen discussed the future of the Cavalier Motel during their meeting last night.
Yarmouth resident Carol Coverly presented a neighborhood petition with 72 signatures requesting that the town do something about the vacant property which caught fire on June 25.
Coverly said something should be done with the property soon.
“The four-acre Cavalier property is a prime piece of real estate and the hope is it gets developed into something of which Yarmouth can be proud,” said Coverly.
The Cavalier Motel property was transferred yesterday to the 881 Realty Trust, making Jack Hines the trustee and owner of the property.
Hines said that he has plans for the property.
“The property has had a controversial past and hopefully we can put that all behind us and have the property developed into something that will make sense for everybody and that everyone can be proud of,” said Hines.
Hines added that work on the property will start this week and include the demolition of four of the motel’s buildings, the removal of the motel’s furniture and landscaping.
An application will go before the town’s planning board in approximately 60 days, according to Hines, to subdivide the four-acre property.
If approved, Hines said he’s proposing to use part of the property for a family entertainment venue and will remodel the cottages at the back of the site.
