YARMOUTHYarmouth selectmen will once again look to finalize an article on this year’s Town Meeting warrant, seeking funds to begin a second search for a new town administrator.

Article 1 of the warrant calls for $200,000 in free cash to cushion the current year’s fiscal budget, using $25,000 of the funds to conduct a new search.

The town’s finance committee has said it would not approve funds for a new search, and Selectmen Chairman Erik Tolley said funds available for the search are currently about $6,000.

“We have a $19,000 gap and we have a finance committee that has taken the position that they’re not going to authorize any internal transfers to fund a new search,” Tolley said.

Peter Johnson-Staub is currently the Interim Town Administrator, but with his 90-day interim status about to run out and lack of support from two board members, Tolley adds that a search needs to happen and is hoping to be able to bring a measure forward to voters.

“It seems pretty clear to me that in the absence of a finance committee approval, we do need town meeting approval,” Tolley stated.
