YARMOUTH – Cape Cod seniors are coming together to help seniors impacted by the historic flooding from Hurricane Harvey in Texas.

The Yarmouth Democratic Town Committee and Friends of the Yarmouth Council on Aging are collecting cash donations to send to two Houston Senior Centers.

Democratic Town Committee chair Bob Isadore said many seniors in Houston have been displaced and that senior centers will be stretched thin for the foreseeable future.

“We know the money is going directly to them and, of course, it will be used where they will need it the most,” Isadore said.

Cash and checks will be collected at the Yarmouth Senior Center through September.

“At the end of the month we’ll be dividing the money between the two senior centers there and sending it to them,” Isadore said.

The funds are going to the Montrose Center and the Denver Harbor Senior Citizens Center.

Checks can be made payable to Friends of the Yarmouth Council on Aging.

“I know for a fact that seniors here are sometimes very reluctant to reach out for help and obviously in Texas they do need help,” Isadore said.
