YARMOUTH – Yarmouth’s two golf courses will see $4.5 million in improvements over the next five years.
That’s according to the town’s Golf Director Jim Armentrout who told Selectmen recently that revenue at the Bass River and Bayberry Hills courses have steadily increased.
That includes an increase of over $140,000 in revenues over the past two months of fiscal year 2016.
Revenues from the courses have totaled $3.32 million, keeping with the average of $3.36 million over the past 10 years.
An increase in younger golfers playing at the courses has contributed to those numbers.
Membership for those under 35 rose to 137 this year, up from 91 in 2013 and a considerable surge from 2010 when there were less than 30 members under the age of 30.
“This is a healthy trend,” said Armentrout. “We see the absolute aggregate of participants increasing as well.”
Improvements include renovations to the Bass River Restaurant, construction of new golf cart paths at Bayberry Hills and renovating the bunkers and areas surrounding the greens.
The renovations will also be funded by $2 million in borrowed money in fiscal 2018 and $2.5 million in fiscal 2021.
“The town’s courses are both an integral part of the Yarmouth residents’ quality of life and a significant cog in the wheels of Yarmouth’s economy,” said Armentrout.
