Y-D CERT Team Announces Training Classes in January

YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth-Dennis Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is holding their 6 session CERT training classes starting on January 7th.

Topics covered include emergency prep, CERT, fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster medical and psychological, and terrorism.

“It prepares you for the type of emergency, specifically for Cape Cod-like hurricanes and Nor’Easters and how to take care of yourself and your house,” said Gaynor Foster, the Coordinator of the Y-D CERT team.

For those looking to get more involved in the community’s emergency preparedness and response activities, the training opens up the option of becoming a volunteer member of CERT.

Classes will be held at the Yarmouth Police Department from 6:30-9:30 pm on January 7th, 9th, 23rd and 28th.

“It teaches different activities that you can help out in,” said Foster.  

The January 14th class be held at Cape Cod CPR in South Yarmouth.

The day and location of the final exercise will be announced.

Participants must be 16 years or older and attend all classes to receive a certificate.

To apply for the training, participants will need to fill out an application form and be subject to a CORI background check.

To receive an application packet, send an email to [email protected] or pick up a packet at either the Dennis or Yarmouth Police Departments.
